JACKSON, Tenn.-The new leader for the Jackson-Madison County School System was in town, Tuesday and met with teachers, students and community leaders.
Dr. Verna Ruffin is in the Hub City this week to get to know the area before coming to work officially on July 1.
Dr. Ruffin stopped by Lincoln Elementary, Jackson Career and Technology and Isaac Lane Elementary Schools and met with teachers and talked about their particular school and students.
Ruffin is currently with the Tulsa Public School System in Oklahoma as an assistant superintendent. She is the second woman to hold the position in the Jackson-Madison County School System and said she is excited to be coming to West Tennessee.
"It's very important that I communicate very openly and be very transparent with people and making certain that even when we are doing some very tough things that people are understanding of why we are doing that," said incoming superintendent Dr. Verna Ruffin of the Jackson-Madison County School System.
