Dyer County Cheerleaders Return with National Championship

NEWBERN, Tenn.- Dyer County is home to national champion high school cheerleaders. Tuesday, they welcomed them home in grand style.
Hundreds came out to welcome the cheerleaders home from the UCA Competition in Orlando, Florida where the team took top honors in the Super Varsity co-ed category. And, they have the trophy to prove it
The 34 guys and girls told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they are happy to bring home the title for the first time and they are glad all of their hard work in the gym paid off.
"It's really incredible. We all have cried for an hour following the police and all the other cars in. It was really incredible, said Lori Evans, cheerleading coach of Dyer County High School.
Not only was this a competition, but a time where scouts from the top colleges in the county look for scholarship-worthy cheerleaders.
