Educator of the Week: Parten
HENDERSON, Tenn. -- This week's Educator of the Week is Erica Parten, who comes to us from East Chester Elementary in Henderson.
Parten has already been tremendously influential to many young faces over her nine-year teaching career.
"Teaching kindergarten specifically is my passion and because they come a lot of times not straight from home, not knowing letters or sounds," Parten said. "By the time they leave, they're reading."
Parten is an alumna of Freed-Hardeman University where she earned both her bachelors and masters degrees in education.
"Lots of teachers here since I've come to this school have really been helpful and we're kind of like a family here, which is nice and everyone helps each other out," Parten said.
Parten says teaching kindergarten comes with its fair share of challenges.
"This is their first school experience," Parten said. "A lot of them kind of come at all different levels and you know some are already reading when they come."
Parten says students should not be afraid to try things and to believe in what they can achieve.
