Ellington Awards Two College Scholarships

The Ellington family celebrated the life and dreams of one who has passed away in hopes of fulfilling others dreams.
It was Jerome Maurice Ellington's dream to go to college but financial hardship once stood in his way. Ellington made it to Lane College, but was murdered in 2009.
Saturday, the family decided to celebrate his life. Through the Jerome Ellington Perseverance Scholarship Fund, family members gave two $500 scholarships to students who are college bound.
"Knowing that my son's legacy will live on because he believed in helping others and that's what we want to do . He still lives on," said Mother and founder of the foundation Norma Ellington.
Organizers said they have raised money all year hosting barbecues and selling home made items. This is the third annual scholarship give away. Ellington said they have also donated $500 dollars to Lane College.
