Expect personnel changes at the MCSO, sheriff-elect Mehr says
EAST JACKSON -- For the first time in two decades, a new sheriff is elected in Madison County.
Sheriff-elect Republican John Mehr spoke with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the day after his win and alluded to personnel changes and restructuring within the department.
"I will be bringing my own chief deputy that will be working with me, and that person has lots of experience and education," Mehr said.
Mehr says he will continue to rely on connections he made while working at the TBI, specifically when it comes to managing larger criminal cases in the county.
"I wouldn't put the burden on the tax payers to outfit a crime scene van and then spend thousands of dollars to staff a team when ones [are] available at no cost," Mehr said.
We did ask Mehr about deputy Sharon Sangster attending the election night events at Republican headquarters Thursday night. Mehr says it was a public event and he did not speak to her.
Mehr will begin his first day in office on Sept. 1.
