According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, the lion was found Friday morning at Woodland Hills Golf and Country Club. The statue, which weighs several hundred pounds, was pulled out of the pool by employees and deputies removed the lion from the location.
After a thorough investigation, authorities said they were able to determine that the lion had been taken from Freed-Hardeman University where it was in storage.
School officials said that the lion was donated as part of a pair about five years ago. The pair appraised for approximately $15,000.
