Family Remembers Cold Case Murder Victim on 27th Anniversary

HENDERSON COUNTY Tenn.- Family members of Betty Carol Thomas sat down with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News on the 27th anniversary of her disappearance.

Thomas went missing on March 14, 1986, and her remains were found on Christmas Day of that same year. Her daughter, Amy Lyles, says she was only 11-years-old when she went missing, "I just remember being really devastated, ya know, it's kinda hard for an 11-year-old to understand."

Sheriff Brian Duke said his department and the TBI have not stopped investigating Thomas' murder. " We're not giving up. 27 years is 27 years, but that doesn't mean that the case should be closed or should be filed away somewhere."

The Henderson County Sheriff's Department posted Thomas' photo to their Facebook page hoping that someone will come forward with new information.

"She was a sister, she was a mother, a daughter, and a friend. It just means a lot to know that there are still people out there rooting for her and want to help get this case solved," said Lyles.
