Farmers Fight against Hunger

MILAN, Tenn.- As part of No-Till Field Day, area farmers came together for a good cause, putting together 14,000 meals for local food banks.
"Farmers Versus Hunger" featured hands-on activity where farmers and local citizens put together soy protein and vitamin-enriched macaroni and cheese meals.
Around 18 percent of Volunteer State residents are food deprived and can not afford enough food to meet their basic needs.
Those involved said the event is something that brings the community together for a good cause.
"You set several different types of people, different groups together all of them working together on a goal and that is putting these meals together and that to me is one of the best benefits," said Chuck Danehower, of UT Extension.
Organizers said this is a new tradition to the event. They hope to continue for future years.
