Former Jackson Police Officer Indicted for Filing False Report

A former Jackson Police officer was arrested, Wednesday by the TBI.

According to a news release, Travis Hass, 29, currently of Rossville, Georgia, was indicted by the Madison County Grand Jury. He is charged with filing a false report for allegedly giving incorrect information about the incident.

Hass is currently in the Hamilton County Jail and will be transported to Madison County at a later date.

On June 3, 2010, Hass reported that he had been shot by unknown assailants while on patrol outside the L. Dalton Wholesale Meat Co. on Lawrence Switch Road in Jackson after he struggled with the two attackers over his gun.

Hass was shot once in the left shoulder, once in the right thigh and twice in his bulletproof vest.

According to a news release, on July 6, 2010, the District Attorney General requested TBI to investigate the incident after the Jackson Police Department recognized inconsistencies in what was reported to have happened to Hass. He later resigned from the department.
