Former Jail Administrator Indicted for Theft

SELMER, Tenn. – The investigation into missing money at the McNairy County Jail has lead to the arrest and indictment of a former jail administrator.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Doug King, 30, of Selmer, was indicted on one count of theft of property between $1,000 to $10,000, two counts of official misconduct, and one count of tampering with evidence.

In August, Sheriff Guy Buck told 7 Eyewitness News he fired an employee and the district attorney’s office along with the TBI was investigating the theft of money.

Officials with the TBI said King admitted to investigators that he took cash from the booking cash machine at the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation revealed approximately $8,500 was taken from the jail between January and August of 2012.

King was released from jail after posting $5,000 bond.
