JACKSON, Tenn.- Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam continued his focus on the importance of higher education with a stop in the Hub City, Thursday.
The governor was on the University of Memphis-Lambuth Campus talking with education leaders, industry officials and businessmen about higher education affordability, quality and workforce development.
Haslam said there is a need to improve the quality of colleges, universities and technology centers while doing a better job matching the skills state institutions are teaching with the needs of employees.
"I think the most important thing we'll talk about is relevance, to make certain that, for post secondary education, the graduates we're preparing really are ready for the workforce of today and tomorrow and not the workforce that existed 20 years ago."
The governor said status quo is not good enough for Tennessee's students.
