JACKSON, Tenn. - The preliminary hearing for former Madison County Deputy Chad Lewis started Thursday afternoon. Lewis is accused of kidnapping his ex-wife and stabbing her while driving down the road.

The victim, Heather Sykes, took to the stand and gave an emotional detailed account of the night she was stabbed. Sykes said it all started when she went on a date with another man. Sykes said she received 50 text messages from Lewis stating he wanted to talk.

Heather Sykes stated on the stand that she gave in and went on a drive with her ex-husband. While in the car, Sykes testified that Lewis kept questioning her about the details of her date. She says when she finally answered Lewis struck her in the chest.

"I thought he hit me, I honestly thought he just hit me because it knocked the breath out of me when I took my hands up like this and I brought my hands back down there was blood on them," said Heather Sykes.

After all the testimony, the judge said there is enough evidence to send the case to a grand jury.
