A big family celebration is scheduled this weekend in downtown Jackson. Former Tennessee Volunteer and current New Orleans Saint Jabari Greer is sponsoring the event called "Run Jackson."
It is a free festival that includes a family march, a 5K run, children's games and much more. American Idol finalist Jason Castron will also preform during the day-long Father's Day event.
"We need to go out there and show our support, not just for fathers but our entire family unit," said Greer. "We must realize our families are the most important resource we can possibly have."
"Run Jackson" also serves as a fundraiser for The Greer Campaign, which serves local families. Its mission is to unite fathers and families.
"To be a father is something that is one of the toughest things that you could do," said Greer. "But being a father and a husband is the most fulfilling, most rewarding job that I have ever had in my life."
Streets around Jackson's City Hall will be blocked to traffic to allow for the activities. They get underway Saturday at 7 a.m. and continue through the evening.
