JACKSON, Tenn-A few local leaders and citizens are taking a hands-on approach to stopping gang violence.

Friday, former gang members and community leaders met to discuss solutions in combating violence among youth in Jackson.

The town hall and panel discussion was called "Let's Talk", and was held in the EconoLodge Hotel ballroom in West Jackson.

Panel members, who included local pastors, law enforcement, and civil rights leaders, said the solution to combating violence in our community is by communicating with young people about the problems youth face.

"This was a start of something great," said Monique Grant, the coordinator of "Let's Talk". "I don't just feel like it was an event. It was a movement that has begun in this city."

The town hall was sponsored by Rehoboth Destiny Center of Jackson. So far, no dates have been set for future events; but Grant said there will be more to come.
