Haywood Co. School Board Rescinds Superintendent's Raise

The Haywood County School Board has decided not to give their superintendent a raise.
Last week, the Haywood County School Board voted to give superintendent Doctor Marlon King and extension on his contract as well as a $30,000 raise.
Tuesday, the school board rescinded the decision during a special called meeting. The board's attorney said the school system did not give the public proper notice for the consideration of the extension and raise.
As a result, the board can not reconsider the measures until September. That is because according to state regulations, the contract for the director of schools can not be extended and no raise can be giving within 45 days of an election. Now the board must wait until 30 days after the election to reconsider.
The next school board election is in August.
