Henry County Drug Round Up

The element of surprise. That is what Henry County officials say they were banking on when they made more than nineteen drug bust, Wednesday morning.

"We've got multiple buys on most of these defendants. We're looking at getting some good, good solid cases into court, getting convictions on them," said Sheriff Monte Belew of Henry County.

Sheriff Belew says they started the morning looking for more than 21 defendants with more than 69 felony charges.

"We're wanting to lock them down, keep them in jail, rehabilitate them, do whatever we have to do. We don't want them back out on the streets of Paris and Henry County, selling drugs again, because it does nothing but ruin lives," said Sheriff Belew.

According to Sheriff Belew, the goal now is to keep these offenders off the street. He says 80% of criminals caught in his county are repeat offenders.

The agencies made two arrest at Henry County High School. The mother of one of the students, wanted by police, was later picked up at her job, a fast food restaurant in Paris.

"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. As a youth growing up, if that's what you're used to, if that's the environment that you're around, that's what you know, you don't know any better. You're not taught right from wrong and bless her heart it's a tough road to hoe," said Sheriff Belew.

As of 11am this morning, officers say they picked up 16 out of the 22 people indicted, seized three cars and more than $2,000.

"I'm very happy that it's over with, because it's too close to home and I feel safer with me and my family," said Pinkie Wofford, a neighbor to one of the dealers arrested.
