Henry County Student Jailed after Alleged Threat
HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. - A Henry County student is in jail after allegedly threatening to do bodily harm with a weapon to other students in the alternative school.
According to a news release, the crisis line for Care Counseling Center received a tip from an anonymous caller, Wednesday, stating that they had received a text message from a 15 year old student indicating the threat.
Deputies reported that Carey Counseling contacted the Paris Police Dept who in turn contacted School Resource Officer Sgt. Buford Taylor. While conducting the investigation Sgt. Taylor reportedly uncovered further evidence that corroborated what the initial caller had stated.
Law enforcment said they made contact with the students named in the threats and measures were taken to insure that they were in no immediate danger. The Henry County School System was also notified and made aware of this incident.
The suspect student was charged with aggravated assault and transported to juvenile detention in Rutherford County where he is awaiting his court date on Monday, March 4th. The suspect student was also served with a violation of probation in conjunction with these charges.
Also assisting in this investigation was Sgt. Ricky Watson with the Paris Police Dept.
Henry County Sheriff's Department Captain Damon Lowe stated "This is another very important aspect of having a school resource officer. Sgt. Taylor is active in the school system and with knowing the students was able to lead this investigation and stop a potential violent act in the school."
