Herron Not Running in 2012

State senator Roy Herron said his current term in Nashville will be his last.

The Dresden Democrat announced Thursday he will not seek re election later this year.Herron said he is leaving politics to take over as president of the McWherter Center, a non-profit group with a goal of providing scholarships and higher education opportunities for Tennessee students.

Herron, who is an attorney and former Methodist minister, has served as a state lawmaker since 1986.
