Home Invasion in North Jackson Terrorizes Family
JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police are investigating a violent home invasion involving five gunmen who robbed a family Saturday.
Police said the robbery happened around 8:30 p.m Saturday night off of Garden Crest Cove in North Jackson. LInda Hernandez told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that her 24-year-old cousin was sitting on the couch with his father when they heard a knock at the door.
"Somebody knocked at the door and he's waiting for somebody and he opened the door he didn't look in the window, he just opened the door," said Hernandez.
Investigators said five masked gunmen barged their way through demanding cash. Police said one of the victims was assaulted when he tried to run upstairs.
"They beat him in his head with the gun too many times," said Hernandez. "So scary really so scary right now. He goes to the hospital."
Family members said there were four children inside the house at the time of the invasion and two of the children were in the room during the beating.
"They were really scared when it happened, they cried the little ones they cried," said Hernandez.
Victim's said the gunmen took all of their cash.
"He had his full check pay yesterday in his pocket. It's just really bad really really bad right now," said Hernandez. "They don't have money for food because they took the money."
Hernandez said she believes her family was targeted. Police said Hispanic families are victimized because often crimes against them are not reported. Hernandez explained why some families are afraid.
"It's because they don't speak English really well. Most Spanish around here they don't speak good English and it's scary to explain what happened and they try to do something back to you," said Hernandez.
The family said they this robbery has financially devastated them.
"All the money is gone right now, they probably are not going to celebrate Christmas now," said Hernandez.
Jackson Police say so far they have made no arrests. Anyone with information that could help is asked to call Jackson Police or Crime Stoppers.
