Homes in Henry Co. Evacuated after Anhydrous Ammonia Spill

By news admin

HENRY CO., Tenn. -- Two homes in Henry County had to be evacuated Saturday afternoon, after deputies say tanks of anhydrous ammonia spilled in a crash.

Sheriff Monte Belew said a farming truck carrying the two tanks of the compound flipped on highway 79 North around noon. Both sides of the road were shut down for nearly an hour.

Investigators said the wind was carrying the anhydrous ammonia, and they evacuated the homes as a precaution.

Belew tells WBBJ the ammonia is used for farming, and can be dangerous to a person's breathing or lungs.

No one was injured in the spill or crash.
