Inmate Found Dead in Madison County Jail

JACKSON, Tenn. - Sheriff David Woolfork has confirmed an inmate at the Madison County Jail was found dead inside his cell at 12:28 p.m., Friday.

Woolfork has been identified by the inmate as Zachary I. Ligon, 17. He was found by officers hanging from his cell from a bed sheet.

Ligon was transferred from juvenile court to adult court on Wednesday. He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated burglary (3 counts), unlawful possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

According to Sheriff Woolfork, Ligon was not on suicide watch and was observed 15 minutes earlier by officers.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
