Inmates plead guilty in alleged '11 crime spree
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Darian Pierce and Ricky Wedgeworth have each pleaded guilty to kidnapping related to an escape from a Louisiana jailed and the slaying of a man during a crime spree through four states.
The pleas were entered Monday before U.S. District Judge David Bramlette. Bramlette set sentencing for May 30. Each faces a sentence of life in prison.
The men were at the Louisiana State Police compound in Baton Rouge on March 4, 2011, when they stole a van.
A few days later, David Cupps, of Sunbury, Ohio, disappeared from a hotel in Vicksburg, Miss. Authorities say he was abducted for his rental car. Cupps' body was found in Alabama. He had been beaten and strangled.
