Interstate Construction Halted for Holiday

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Fourth of July is just around the corner and there is good news for drivers staying in the Volunteer State.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation have halted all road construction work during the holiday period. All construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes will be suspended beginning at 12 p.m. Tuesday and last until 6 a.m., Friday. Officials say the construction work halt will allow maximum roadway capacity for drivers traveling during the holiday.

AAA is projecting more than 42 million Americans will travel 50-miles or more away from home during July 4. That is up almost 5 percent from last year.

AAA also estimates that more than 750,000 Tennesseans will hit the road this holiday.
