JPD Awards Officer for Outstanding Work

JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson's finest, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty were honored, Thursday.

These are seven of the eight officers honored during a special ceremony at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Each was awarded either the police departments 'Life Saving Medal' or the 'Medal of Valor' for their actions while on the job.

"It's very special to be in service to a community like we have and see that this indicative of what our law enforcement community is all about. "It's indicative of what our citizens are all about. and I think what makes it very special, this is what America is all about," said Chief Gill Kendrick of the Jackson Police Department.
"We look at award recognition for officers who have, you might say, have done those acts of valor and courage and as the notation says you really kinda go above and beyond the call of duty."

Three retirees of the department were given the 'Medal of Merit'. Four citizens were recognized with the department's 'Certificate of Merit'.
for helping in the arrests of suspects.
