JPD Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Wreck

A two-motorcycle crash take a life, injures one and ties up traffic on a busy east Jackson Street.

Police and emergency responders were called to the area of the Highway 70 By-Pass near the National Guard Armory to a wreck involving two motorcycles just before 8, Wednesday night.

According to Jackson Police, the drivers of the motorcycles were traveling north on the By-Pass and came upon a pick-up truck that was partially parked in the lane of traffic. One motorcycle was able to maneuver around the truck, however, a second motorcycle clipped the pickup causing it and another motorcycle to crash

Rodney Kennedy, 51, of Bolivar died at The Med in Memphis as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Joel Spencer, 58, also of Bolivar, suffered serious injuries and is being treated at an area hospital.

The wreck shut-down traffic in both northbound lanes of the By-pass for some time as EMTs worked to treat the drivers of the motorcycles.
