JSCC Student Athlete Killed in Wreck
JACKSON Tenn.- A five-car pile up along Highway 18 killed a Jackson State Community College basketball player early Monday.
Troopers say the car driven by Tre Polk, 19, was hit head on when another vehicle crossed the center line. Polk's car flipped sending him to a local hospital. The wreck also injured two others.
Jackson State's Athletic Director, Steve Cornelison, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News many of his teammates rushed to be by his side.
"It makes it tough," Cornelison said. "It's like a second family, very much like that."
The team has canceled all practices and scrimmages for the week. The school is also providing counselors for grieving students.
"Everybody needs to grieve," expressed Cornelison. "It's just basketball there will be plenty of time for that."
Teammates said this season will be dedicated to Polk.
"I hope that we can get back together and keep trekking." Jamichael McKinnie said. "I know that's what Tre would want us to do."
Funeral arraignments for Tre have not been released.
