WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff

JACKSON, Tenn.- Court appearances for inmates in Jackson and Madison County have stepped into the digital age.

Thursday morning, the first court arraignments by video were conducted in Jackson City Court.

Officials said the new technology does away with the need to transfer inmates to and from the court.

Not only do the video arraignments create less travel time for authorities, but officials said the new system increases safety and will save Jackson and Madison County thousands of dollars each year.
