Jackson Police Investigating Shooting in East Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. - Police are investigating a shooting in East Jackson that filled several homes and cars with bullet holes.

Police told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that gunmen shot into at least two homes and six cars on Middle Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told authorities they saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

Neighbors said several children live on the street, and they believe it was a miracle no one was hurt. Residents said they are praying for answers from eyewitnesses, in an effort to put a stop to the violence in their neighborhood.

"I'm tired of the noise," said neighbor Clyde Moore, who had two stray bullet holes in the front of his home. "Every time I turn around, it's the same thing. Every weekend they're shooting out here. Last night it sounded like a war zone the way they were shooting up and down through here. I'd say i heard maybe about 15 or 16 rounds or something like that."

Many residents told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that drug and gang violence control the area, but they are not sure why this home was targeted. Neighbors said they fear this shooting is just the beginning.

"(It's) probably the beginning of what else is going to happen this year," said neighbor Keith Hampton. "There is probably going to be some more shootings (stemming) from that shooting that happened last night."

Police said they recovered a car and are currently trying to determine if it is the same car shots were fired from in the shooting. Residents said they want more police protection and the violence to stop before an innocent person is killed.

"What will help simmer it down is to have a patrol car in this area everyday," said Hampton. "That will help calm some of the violence and the shootings."

No arrests have been made. If you have any information in this case please, call Jackson Police (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers (731) 424-8477.
