Jackson Woman to Receive Honors During Black History Month

JACKSON, Tenn.- One of Jackson's own will be honored this weekend with two awards from the University of Memphis.

Summer Owens is a 1997 graduate of JCM, who wrote a book after her journey as a young mother.

The "Life After Birth" author will be honored for her message of discouraging teen pregnancy, yet encouraging teen mothers and everyone who faces challenges.

Friday night, Owens will receive the Young Alumni Freedom Award. Sunday, she will receive the AKA Sorority's Social Justice and Human Rights Initiatives Award.
