Jackson's National Night Out to be Held in October

7 Eyewitness News Staff

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Police Department is going to try something different for National Night Out. They are going to hold it in October.

Police officials said that, over the last few years, they have noticed a drop in the number of block parties. They believe it is because of the heat on the traditional day in August.

Authorities hope that by holding the event in October, the weather will be milder and more residents will come out for the event.

National Night Out will be celebrated in Jackson on October 2, 2012. The police department would like to encourage groups to start planning their block parties now.

The event is an opportunity to get acquainted with neighbors and officers that work in the area residents live in.

Block parties can also have visits from city officials, fire department, Jackson Energy Authority and others.

If you are planning a party, please contact Sgt. Byron Taylor at 425- 8443 or Investigator Abe Jones at 425-8523.
