Judge Reprimanded for Releasing Son

A West Tennessee judge has received a public reprimand from the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary in connection with the release of his son after an arrest for driving under the influence.
The court that investigates complaints against Tennessee judges posted the reprimand, Tuesday against Obion County General Sessions Judge Jimmy C. Smith.
According the the reprimand obtained by 7 Eyewitness News, Smith admitted that he set the condition for release of his son who was arrested in October 2011 and later pleaded guilty to violation of the implied consent law.
The court found this was a violation of the Code of Judicial Conduct, which said judges shall disqualify themselves in a proceeding in which the judge's impartiality might be questioned.
