JACKSON, Tenn.- A gathering of government, community and business leaders to present a plan of action for the new term of congress and the state legislature.
More than 100 leaders gathered at the Southwest Tennessee Development District Office to present the Regional Economic Development Office to present the Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) to state lawmakers and the field office representatives of Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander and Congressman Stephen Fincher.
According to the Southwest Tennessee Development District Executive Director Joe Barker, the primary goal of the REDI Program is to impact the educational attainment levels and economic base for the region.
One of the goals is to gain continued support for infrastructure at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County.
"If we work together as a region, we can accomplish more," said Lisa Hankins, director of REDI. "You know the old saying, work smarter, not harder. That is part of what this is. Hopefully we have had bills written and passed in the past, thanks to our agenda and so we hope this will launch some things in Nashville that will help this region of Southwest Tennessee."
REDI currently serves 11 counties in West Tennessee.
