JACKSON, Tenn.- It was a rough start to the new school year for Lincoln Elementary in east Jackson.
On the first day of school the chimney was struck by lightening forcing the shutdown of an entire wing, mainly 4th and 5th grade classrooms. But over the weekend, crews came in and repair the roof damage and capped off the chimney.
"Everything has been cleared," said Principal Iretta Turner of Lincoln Elementary. "All of the debris has been removed from the roof that was damaged so the classrooms are safe and the students are back in their repective classrooms and learning and doing everything that they are supposed to do."
Principal Turner told us the damage was all to the outside of the building. However, she could not give an estimate on the total cost for the repairs.
