JACKSON, Tenn- Local law enforcement officials and loss prevention officers are trying to decrease organized shoplifting this holiday season. 'J Alert', the local law enforcement retaliation team met Wednesday, to discuss a strategy to crack down on the popular holiday crime.

"We will have increased patrols during the holiday season, both high and low profile patrols," said Capt. Mike Holt, of the Jackson Police Department.

Captain Holt said the problem is bigger than shoplifting alone. He said those who buy stolen items should reconsider.

"If you've purchased these items from someone, you are supporting a criminal enterprise," said Holt.

Police said shoplifting is on the rise, but has been a major problem in the West Tennessee area for a while.
