MCSD Deputy Resigns Amid Inmate Abuse Investigation

The Madison County correctional officer at the center of an excessive force investigation has resigned.

According to Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork, Benjamin E. Long, 24 submitted his resignation, Friday. It is effective April 30, 2012.

The department opened an investigation this week after allegations that Long violated departmental police and used excessive force while booking an inmate, Saturday.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office internal investigation is now closed, but the investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to determine if excess force was used is continuing.
