Madison County Investigates Officer Involved Shooting

SOUTH MADISON COUNTY -- The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into a report of shots being fired in the 3700 block of Harts Bridge Road shortly before 3:00 a.m. on November 4, 2013.

The investigation revealed that Christopher Young, age 26, a correctional officer with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, heard what sounded like a car door closing outside his home. He then stated that he heard the sound of someone tampering with the lock on his back door.

Officer Young went outside to investigate when he was attacked by the suspect with a knife. “The suspect did begin swinging a knife at the officer,” said Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork.

During the struggle, Officer Young shot two rounds at the suspect. “The officers didn’t see any signs that the suspect was injured,” Woolfork said.

The suspect fled down the driveway. Officer Young did not see a vehicle or any other suspects in the area. Officer Young received cuts to his arm and chest as a result of this struggle.

“He had the right to use whatever force necessary to stop the threat,” Woolfork said.

The suspect has been described as wearing a black ski mask and a black long sleeve shirt. He appeared to be 5’11” to 6’ tall and approximately 200 pounds.

Officer Christopher Young has been employed with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office since April 2013.
