Madison County Prisoner Found Hung in Jail Cell

An investigation tonight into the death of a prisoner at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex who died while on suicide watch. According to Sheriff David Woolfork, his office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of Jonathan Carter, 24 of Huntingdon. Authorities believe he died after he hanged himself inside his cell.
The Sheriff says the inmate apparently died shortly after 10 o'clock last night, and was pronounced dead at the jail by the assistant medical examiner.
Carter was sentenced to ten years on charges of aggravated robbery and failure to appear in circuit court yesterday. His body has been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
