SELMER, Tenn. - A Selmer man, accused of sexually abusing a young girl, is behind bars. "He lived just a few doors down," said neighbor Vicky White. "It's in my neighborhood, my safe place." Jimmy Inman is charged with two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. Police said the charges stem from inappropriate behavior with a girl, who was 13-years-old at the time Many of Inman's neighbors declined to comment on the situation. But some said they were surprised because he seemed like a good guy. Others said that they were just plain stunned. But those who spoke with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News said they were disgusted that someone in their neighborhood would be accused of such crimes. "It just really gives me a sick feeling," said White. "I had no idea. I really didn't. And there are children in this neighborhood." "I'm most definitely (upset), especially being a working mother," said neighbor Sandra Blacklance. "I mean these are my granddaughters. One's a teenager and one's a preteen, and I work during the day. You know, they watch each other. And to have someone that close, knowing that the 8-year-old is out here playing." Selmer Police Lieutenant Roger Rickman said in a statement, "The case is still under investigation. We believe there are more victims and do expect to add additional charges in the near future. Jimmy Inman remains jailed in lieu of $250,000 bond. There is no word yet on his next court date.
