Man Accused of Trying to Solicit Underage Girl for Sex

JACKSON, Tenn. – A Jackson man was arrested, Wednesday, after he allegedly sent nude photos of himself to a person he thought was an underage girl.

According to a news release, Joshua Cathey, 28, is charged with solicitation of a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators believe Cathey participated in sexually explicit conversations with an undercover Jackson police investigator assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Cathey reportedly thought that he was talking to a girl under 18.

Cathey reportedly was communicating via cell phone text messages and the internet. He allegedly solicited the undercover investigator for sex and sent nude images of himself to police.

Wednesday, police said Cathey again solicited the undercover investigator for sex and reportedly developed a plan to meet and go back to his apartment in Patrician Terrace on Hollywood Drive. Around 1:30 p.m., officers and investigators arrested Cathey near his apartment, as he was apparently walking to meet the person who he thought was the minor.

Joshua Cathey is scheduled to be arraigned via video link at 8:00 a.m. Thursday in Jackson City Court.
