Man Arrested, Accused of Shaking his Baby
TRENTON, Tenn.- A Gibson County man was arrested for allegedly abusing his child.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Samuel Mathew Edmiston, 35, of Milan, was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse. He is accused of shaking his two month old son at their residence around New Year’s Day because the infant would not stop crying.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on January 1, 2013, the child was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with what was described initially as seizure like symptoms.
The infant was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center and diagnosed with a brain bleed.
The TBI was requested to investigate the case after the Department of Children’s Services referred the incident of possible child abuse to the District Attorney General’s Office.
Edmiston was booked into the Gibson County Jail on $75,000 bond.
