SELMER, Tenn. - Police in Selmer have arrested and charged a man in the brutal beating of his own grandmother and aunt.

Christopher Scott was arrested Monday in Collierville. Investigators say at the time he was taken into custody, he was driving his grandmother's car.

The women were found beaten inside the grandmother's home in Selmer. Investigators say Scott used weapons, which they asked we not identify, to beat and stab the women. Officers are not saying what might have prompted the violence. However, friends and family of the women, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were not surprised by the allegations against Scott.

Scott is now behind bars in McNairy County. He faces charges of especially aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and theft of property.

Both women were airlifted to a Memphis hospital. Police say they remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Scott is scheduled to return to court July 19.
