Man Arrested on Drug Charges After Crashing into Tree
DOWNTOWN JACKSON -- A man is in custody and facing drug charges after police said he fled the scene of a traffic stop before crashing into a tree, Thursday.
Investigators from the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit were on routine street patrol when they encountered a vehicle driven by Larry G. Clark. 58.
When the investigators attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation, Clark fled at a high rate of speed. As officers pursued, Clark failed to negotiate the turn from East Lafayette Street onto Lindsey Street and struck a tree at that intersection. The car came to a stop and Clark was taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle and his person revealed Clark to be in possession of approximately 12.2 grams of Crack Cocaine, 4.8 grams of Marijuana in four individual bags and a loaded .38 caliber handgun which was reported stolen from another state.
He had $2,237 on him and and the drugs seized in this case have an estimated street value of $1,300. Clark is currently on parole for felony convictions in Tennessee.
Clark was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine with Intent to Sell or Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell or Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm during commission of a Dangerous Felony, Possession of Stolen Property, Negligent Driving, Felony Evading Arrest and Driving on a Revoked Drivers License.
He is currently being held at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex where he awaits arraignment in Madison County General Sessions Court.
