Suspect in Police Chief Shooting Appears for Hearing
ALAMO, Tenn. - The man charged with shooting Friendship Police Chief Bill Garrett appeared in Circuit Court today.
Craig Barbee faces eight charges including attempted first degree murder.
He is accused of robbing the Dollar General Store in Friendship on May 18. Deputies say Barbee entered the store wearing a mask and holding a hand gun.
Garrett was robbed and shot in the stomach. He fought for his life in a Memphis Hospital.
Chief Garrett was in the courtroom Monday when Barbee walked past him for the hearing.
"Every time he is in court I want him to see my pretty face to know that I am still here and I am going to pursue it as far as I can," said Garrett.
Garrett recently returned to work.
"I have had so much support every day. People come up to me and give me a hug and shake my hand," said Garrett.
Garrett has been back to the store many times since the shooting that left a two foot scar on his stomach.
"Sometimes I will walk down the aisle and I will say I got shot right there."
Craig Barbee will return to court October 29TH. Chief Garrett says he will be there.
