JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson police are investigating a shooting that put one man in the hospital with a serious gunshot wound Sunday morning.

Police said the victim, a 24-year-old male, was shot while walking along Old Hickory Blvd around 12:15 a.m. in West Jackson. Investigators said the victim was hit between Tracewood and Breezewood Cove and was unable to see who pulled the trigger.

"It's ridiculous that nobody knows where the bullet came from," said neighbor Saint Murphy. " I just say you should be careful out here right now. Since we moved here, been so much going on and it just doesn't make sense. Late at night there's young guys running around with pistols and guns and things, it's just not right."

Police said the victim was was taken to Jackson General Hospital by a driver who stopped to help. According to police, the 24-year-old was sent into surgery to remove a single bullet that traveled through the victim's arm, into his chest, and and then his stomach, deflating one lung in the process. Police said his current condition is unknown at this time.

Residents said it's becoming too common to hear gunshots in this neighborhood. Many are afraid of the gun violence for the sake of their young children. Officers confirmed there have been an increase of "shots fired" calls in this area, and said they are responding with increased patrols.

"They need to stop all the violence because it's not worth going to jail over," said Lewis.

"It was sad because it didn't make any sense," said neighbor Lisa Lewis. "We have kids around here running around outside late at night so they don't need to be out here shooting like that."

Investigators said right now it is unclear if the victim shot walking was specifically targeted. If you have any information in this case call Jackson Police (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers (731) 424-8477
