MEDINA, Tenn.- It was a big day for the city of Medina, Wednesday

Despite the rain, ground was officially broken on the city's new 25,000 square foot Food Giant grocery store.

The store is being built on Garrott Drive, which is right behind the Dollar General on the Highway 45 By Pass in Medina.

McIntosh Construction of Jackson, Mississippi is serving as builder and landlord.

Owner Rusty McIntosh said he hopes to have the store open by October.

"We have seen Medina as a growing area. (We) decided that everybody here wanted a grocery store. We are in the Jackson area already with two and decided to come to Medina," said Ronnie Watkins, president of Food Giant.

The builders said this store will be similar to the one on Dr. F.E. Wright Drive in north Jackson.
