Medina Debate Canceled

GIBSON COUNTY Tenn.- The Medina mayoral debate between Incumbent Mayor Vance Coleman and challenger Steven Murphy, was canceled Tuesday evening after debate sponsors claimed a local business tried to create a hostile environment.

According to the newspaper hosting the event, The Milan Mirror- Exchange, a local internet business,, sent out flyers that misrepresented the debate.

The Exchange says they were the exclusive sponsors, and did not approve of ClickOne's "Rumble at Rhodes" theme.

"It was so disheartening to see the advertisements that called it "Rumble at Rhodes." I mean what do you think of? You think I'm going to see this heavy weight match up between these candidates and it's going to get ugly, and were not interested in that." said Debate Coordinator Crystal Burns.

ClickOne still hosted an event Tuesday evening at Alexander Hall in Medina. Mayor Coleman was invited but did not attend. Competitor Steve Murphy was there and took questions from the crowd.
