One of the highest performing schools in the state is here in West Tennessee.

Monday Medina Elementary School celebrated its designation as a Reward School. That means, it is among the top five percent of schools when it comes to its 3rd graders' performance on the TCAP tests.

School officials said there is no other school in our area to receive this honor.

"Our pre-school, first, second, and third grade teachers, all work hard and we build that foundation in pre-K, first and 2nd grade that attributes to the high test scores that we see in third grade," said Assistant Principal Cortnee Wilkes of Medina Elementary. "The state department could be coming into our school and looking at things that we're doing in the classroom and taking ideas and best practices to other schools in the state that could benefit them."

Next year, the state is expected to make extra funds available to all schools that are designated as Reward Schools.
