JACKSON, Tenn- Milan Police Officer Spencer Johnson is charged with firing a shot in the air near a crowd during Lane College's Homecoming in October. He appeared in Jackson City Court on Friday.

According to the warrant, the off-duty Milan officer is charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. A Jackson police officer was nearby and said in the report a car sped away from the area after witnesses said shots were fired.

Johnson claims he did not fire his gun but admitted to the Jackson Police officer, he drew it after an argument with a pedestrian who spit at his car. Lane College students reacted to the accusations.

"We already had violence on our campus due to others coming on campus; and now that would include police," said Katrina Davis, a Lane College student.

Johnson was released on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court in December.
