JACKSON, Tenn. - Antwan Brooks' family said 2012 was full of pain and loss, after police said Brooks was beaten to death by a group of people in August.

The family told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News as the year comes to an end, they have new life to be thankful for.

When Brooks was killed, his girlfriend was nearly five months pregnant. Brooks' son, Antwan Junior, was born two days before Christmas on December 23.

"It's bittersweet because of the loss of my son, but right now we are focusing on the new year and what it has in store for us," said Brooks' mother, Cynthia Williams.

Williams said she can see her son in her new grandson.

"This sweet bundle of joy, of course he can never replace my son, but it is such a blessing for him to be here before the new year."

Brooks' family wants 2013 to be all about healing.

"We are just moving forward, and seeing what the new year brings." said Williams.

Jackson Police said no arrests have been made in Brooks' murder, despite eight people being indicted earlier this year. All eight were released on insufficient evidence.
