Body Found Behind Local Elementary School
JACKSON, Tenn. - A man was found shot and killed in East Jackson, Thursday morning.
According to Jackson police the victim, described as a black man, was shot multiple times.
The body was found on Rhone Street just behind Lincoln Elementary School. School is out for summer break, so no students were not there at the time.
Investigators said a man walking near the school found the body. “I come out, I seen a whole bunch of police officers and I seen the body covered up in a white sheet,” said Phyllis Garmon, a neighbor. “They was putting him in the ambulance and they told me to go back because it was a murder scene.”
Police believe the victim was in his late teens or early twenties.
Officers believe the man was shot sometime late Wednesday night or either early Thursday morning. “We’ve checked and as of this morning we did not receive a shots fired call in this area last night,” said Lt. Tyreece Miller.
Police think the victim was there for six to eight hours before the walker found the body.
We will have additional details as they become available.
